WHY SOME OF MY DOCUMENTS CONTAIN ‘SULE’ __GOVERNOR LALONG

Gov. Simon Lalong of Plateau has revealed the reason behind his other surname ‘Sule’.

Lalong made the revelation at a memorial Mass for his late uncle, Stephen Sule, and other deceased relations on Saturday in Shendam.
He said the late Stephen Sule adopted him as his son.

“Late Sule went to his brothers in the village and told them that he wanted a male child to train because there was no primary school in Ajikamai, my village, then.

“Quickly my father gave me to him, saying take this one, he is your son, henceforth.

“I met other children in his house and all of us were using his name.

“It was my uncle that told me when I was in form five that I had now grown up, and that I should change to my father’s name.

“He told me that I am the first son, if I don’t change it, my siblings would be confused.

“I changed to my father’s name and today it has become a subject of litigation,” he explained.

The governor prayed God for the repose of the soul of his uncle whom God used to help him to be what has become.

Very Rev. Fr. Joseph Ahmadu, Administrator, Sacred Heart Catholic Cathedral, Shendam, in his homily, urged people to live good lives so that they could be remembered like late Stephen Sule.

Ahmadu said that good name outlives its bearer. (NAN)

SPEECH BY PLATEAU STATE GOVERNOR RT HON (DR) SIMON BAKO LALONG AT THE OPENING OF A RETREAT FOR MEMBERS OF THE STATE EXECUTIVE COUNCIL HOLDING AT NIPSS, JOS

SPEECH BY PLATEAU STATE GOVERNOR RT. HON. (DR). SIMON BAKO LALONG AT THE OPENING OF A RETREAT FOR MEMBERS OF THE STATE EXECUTIVE COUNCIL HOLDING AT THE NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF POLICY AND STRATEGIC STUDIES (NIPSS) – KURU, PLATEAU STATE ON 28TH OCTOBER 2019
PROTOCOLS

  1. It is with great delight and high expectations that I address this very important occasion which is the retreat for members of the Plateau State Executive Council and other key officials of Government.
  2. You will recall that I swore in the new Honourable Commissioners on the 7th October 2019 where I clearly stated that our Rescue Administration has so much to do within a short time and would ensure that every second counts as it delivers on its Next Level Agenda.
  3. Prior to the constitution of the State Executive Council, I approved a state-wide familiarization tour of the seventeen Local Government Areas by the appointees, cutting across the three geo-political zones of the State. The successful tour provided them opportunity to interact and engage in peer review with policy makers at the grassroots.
  4. I also directed that the appointees study the 5-Year Plateau State Strategic Development Plan developed by the Boston Consulting Group to enable them hit the ground running and stay on target in implementing our Party’s Agenda and Campaign promises.
  5. There was also a training workshop for the Commissioners shortly after their swearing-in which further gave them an opportunity to understand the direction of government and also discuss their strategies as they settle down for business of governance.
  6. All these were preparatory to this intensive retreat starting today which is the high point of our deliberate efforts at equipping the machinery of government to deliver on the task of serving our people in a result-oriented manner.
  7. Ladies and gentlemen, this retreat with the theme “New Initiatives for Sustaining the Rescue Agenda to the Next Level” is specifically arranged for participants to interact with one another, listen to experts, constructively engage in robust discourse and deepen their understanding of the vision and philosophy of the Rescue Agenda.
  8. This is necessary because you will be expected to demonstrate high level of synergy, collaboration and cooperation as you work together to harness the resources of government and the goodwill of our citizens in delivering good governance throughout the period of your service to our State.
  9. It is for this reason that we have brought in not only members of the State Executive Council, but also Permanent Secretaries and Heads of key Government Agencies with a view to creating the needed understanding and synergy in meeting our objectives as a government.
  10. Let me again emphasize that our Next Level Agenda is anchored on a three-pillar policy thrust namely:
    i) Peace, Security, and good governance
    ii) Physical Infrastructural Development, and
    iii) Sustainable Economic Re-birth.
  11. For many of our citizens, the question on their minds are; what do these policy objectives mean? How will they impact positively on their living standards? How soon will they begin to see the manifest and tangible evidence of this vision?
  12. These and many more are the questions that we need to answer at this retreat as we sit down to plan, review, discuss, strategize, and project on what we need to put in place to get the desired answers for those who elected us and to whom we are accountable.
  13. I therefore expect that this retreat will take a broad look at the State of the Economy of Plateau State and discuss the plans to reposition it in line with the Economic Rebirth Vision of the Rescue Administration.
  14. This gathering should also take a deep look into the challenge of raising funds that are critical to achieving the goals of our administration in delivering better living standards for our people.
  15. Let me emphasize that boosting the State’s revenue generation capacity, strengthening partnerships and other aspects that are captured within the MDAs’ Medium Term Sector Strategy (MTSS) as well as the Medium Term Revenue Framework (MTRF) should be exhaustively discussed at this retreat.
  16. I also expect that in this retreat, issues relating to planning, monitoring and evaluation will receive the needed attention. As a government, we cannot afford to waste valuable time and resources nor condone the culture of waste that denies our people good life.
  17. The Project Monitoring and Result Delivery Unit headed by the Chief of Staff has already been mandated to ensure that the State gets value for money and to track the implementation of all Projects and Programmes through the various Key Performance Indicators.
  18. Let me use this opportunity to remind all participants that the task before us is very daunting. It will require commitment, trust, sacrifice, diligence and accountability for us to meet the yearnings of our people.
  19. There is therefore no room for laziness, lethargy, negligence and outright disregard for government directives as severe consequences await anyone who decides to sabotage our efforts.
  20. I urge you to participate fully in the discussions during this retreat as there are many topics that have been lined up to equip us all with the tools needed for better service to our people.
  21. These topical issues include brief review of our policy thrust since inception; Leadership Ethics; Anti-Corruption; Protocol and Etiquette; Strategic Communication, Performance Monitoring and evaluation; among others.
  22. Peace remains fundamental to any form of development and we are ready to do everything possible to return Plateau State to its rightful position as the Home of Peace and Tourism.
  23. It is also my hope that when this retreat is over, the issue of sustaining peace and security on the Plateau would have been exhaustively dealt with as you prepare to continue to giving the right kind of leadership to the entire workforce.
  24. Very soon, we shall be hosting an Economic and Investment Summit. We hope that the outcome of this retreat will facilitate the process and enable us to be more surgical in engaging the business world and marketing the potentials of our dear state to the rest of the world.
  25. Let me commend the Secretary to the Government of the State, the Chief of Staff, Government House, Director General Research and Documentation, Chairman and Members of the Economic Management Team and all those that have worked hard in putting together a befitting retreat in this conducive and proper environment.
  26. I also appreciate all the resource persons, our Consultants – H. Pierson and partners such as GIZ for their support towards hosting this retreat. We remain grateful to you for partnering with us to build a greater Plateau State.
  27. Finally, while welcoming you, it is my pleasure to declare this Retreat open and wish you God’s guidance and very successful deliberations.
  28. Thank you for listening
Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Simon Bako Lalong
    Executive Governor, Plateau State

SHUN RELIGIOUS BIGOTRY, LALONG TASKS PLATEAU CITIZENS

Plateau State Governor, Rt. Hon. Simon Bako Lalong has called on the people of the state to shunned religious bigotry, tribal and political dichotomy which created polarisation in the pattern of settlement in the state

‘We need to think differently and change the fortunes of the state by thinking Plateau and acting Plateau because when the state prospers, then individuals will be able to realise their God given talents and gifts while the Peace and Tourism that we always rely on will manifest”.
He stated this at the October monthly prayer and fasting session held at the Chapel of Grace, Government House Chapel, Rayfield
According to him, decisions taken by his administration are in the best interest of the state and not to satisfy any personal or group interest other than that of the people he has sworn to protect and serve.
Lalong who addressed several issues regarding the peace and progress of Plateau State, said there is always need for citizens to not only pray for those in authority but also support them with ideas that will provide solutions to challenges of the society.
He said “for me as the Governor of Plateau State, myresponsibility is to do justice to all people in the State whatever theirbackground or affiliations. That is why every decision we take as a governmentis to ensure that we address the problems bordering us and not to escalate it. Iwill do everything that is needed to ensure that the peace that we have todayis maintained and improved upon because when there is peace, there will beinvestment and prosperity which will reduce crime”.
He advised those who are bent on criticizing every policy of government to think about the greater good of the state rather than parochial sentiments that are capable of isolating people and deterring progress. He emphasized that the bible teaches love for God and one another which cannot be changed because of individual interests.
“We need you to continue to pray for us and encourage us. We arenot angels nor are we infallible. Even if we make mistakes, ask God to help us correctthem, but I can assure you that we are always consulting with people to findsolutions to our problems.

“The issue is that some people prefer to criticize but hardly bring any solution on the table even the one they vehemently choose to castigate”.
Chaplain of the Government House, Rev. Fr. David Ajang in his homily, asked the people of Plateau State to reflect on why God endowed the state with abundant natural and human resources that are the envy of people within and outside the country.
The monthly holds every last Friday of the month.

The Hon member representing Langtang North / south federal constituency & house committee chairman on science and technology Hon Beni Lar has paid glowing tribute to the 2015 PDP gubernatorial candidate, late Sen Gyang Nyan Sha Pwajok.

The tribute which was obtained from her special assistant on media and publicity Mr Dogo Nanzing reads;

TRIBUTE TO SEN GYANG N.S PWAJOK.
(March 15, 1966 – October 28, 2015)

It has been four long years since you left this sinful world but it feels just like yesterday I lost a brother & plateau lost a son.

You were, a beloved son who has through hard work & determination uplifted his family name.
A true son of plateau who is not only passionate about his people but always ready to defend the interest/integrity of our beloved state.

Nigeria will always remember you as one of the country’s finest erudite scholars.

As a member of the 7th senate, you distinguished yourself as that young man who came to the red chamber fully prepared. Your contributions have always carried a nationalistic view, you were a voice for the country.

You have been a model to the youth, a strong voice for the down trodden. Your legacy has become the foundation, a reference for all to follow.

Plateau is going through one of her most trying times but we find comfort in one of your favorite quotes;

” The future of plateau
is as bright as
the promises of God”

Sen. Pwajok, you left us too soon, your absence has left a void in our hearts, a vacuum which cannot be filled.
Today as always, I remember you & I pray your soul continue to rest in peace at the bossom of our Lord. Amen.
