THE 2ND TENURE:A LIABILITY OR A BLESSING? (CASE STUDY OF PLATEAU STATE) PART 1__By Chol Badung Chuhwak

In Nigeria Governors are elected for a four year term with the maximum of two terms(8years),that means Governors are eligible to be voted twice, those who curved out the constitution in their wisdom envisaged that in the maximum of the 8years,programs and polices will fully be develop, concepts also will fully be matured and will have great impact in the state and the people, also the people can still vote a governor for just 1term (4years) if they so wish which is still good (as it is obtainable in some States) because this is where the principle of continuity in governance and government comes to play, a good and focus Governor will continue with some good programmes and polices by other administrations before them if it is of great importance in the first tenure(4years),the number of years of the tenure does not matter (whether 1st or 2nd tenure) but the impact on the State and the people is what matters, now don’t get me wrong here on the Plateau the zoning arrangement has worked very well for us and so we have adopted the zoning pattern in other to favour us all, that is why i am an advocate for fairness and justice that is why i call on us all those residing on the Plateau to support the Central Zone for the Governorship seat come 2023,let us leave the merits and demerits of zoning for another day, i know many may want to argue and bring up their own perspectives which is OK.

Now,Plateau State is lucky to have a hard working Governor who understands the principle of continuity in governance and government looking at projects that have not been completed by other previous government before him that is why the masses stood for him in 2019 general elections.

Governor Simon Bako Lalong performed very well in the first tenure, that is why all attempts by the opposition or others using religion & ethnicity as a tool to divide us and make us not to vote the APC in the 2019 governorship election was to no avail.

A lot of us stood firm for the truth and for Plateau State for some obvious reasons few of the reasons are:

1.The Constitution gives room for the maximum of 2 tenures (8years),which Rt.Hon.Simon Bako Lalong is entitled to.

2.In the principle of fairness a lot of Plateau people adopted zoning pattern to favor all the zones in the State.

3.Great Plateau Elders made sure we had Governors in this order:

*Central Zone 1999-2007 Senator Chief Joshua Dariye.

*Northern Zone 2007-2015 Senator Da,Jonah David Jang

  • Southern Zone 2015 -Rt.Hon.Simon Bako Lalong
,so in the spirit of fairness and because of his hard work Plateau people voted massively in 2019 for Rt.Hon Simon Bako Lalong/APC .

Time and space will not allow me to outline all the reasons Plateau people voted for the APC in 2019 general elections.

Now,2nd tenures are for great legacy projects, can we say we have had an impressive performance this 2nd tenure so far?

All that is needed now is good suggestions, advice, and solutions not insults so that Plateau State will be better, kindly read carefully the part 2 of this writing.

God bless Plateau State

JUST IN: BAGHDADI’S WIFE REVEALS IS GROUP SECRETS AFTER CAPTURE

The wife of slain Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi revealed “a lot of information” about the jihadist group’s “inner workings” after she was captured last year, a Turkish official said.
The official said that Baghdadi’s spouse identified herself as Rania Mahmoud but was in fact Asma Fawzi Muhammad Al-Qubaysi.
She was said to be the “first wife” of the IS leader, who was killed in a US special forces raid in Syria last month.
The woman was arrested on June 2, 2018 in the province of Hatay, near the Syrian border, along with 10 others, including Baghdadi’s daughter, who identified herself as Leila Jabeer.
The official said the family links were confirmed using a DNA sample of Baghdadi provided by Iraqi authorities.
“We discovered (the wife’s) real identity pretty quickly. At that point, she volunteered a lot of information about Baghdadi and the inner workings of ISIS,” the official said.
“We were able to confirm a lot of things that we already knew. We also obtained new information that led to a series of arrests elsewhere.”
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan revealed for the first time Thursday that she had been detained.
“We caught his wife — I say this today for the first time — but we didn’t make a big fuss about it,” Erdogan told a gathering of students in Ankara.
He confirmed that Turkey had also captured Baghdadi’s sister and brother-in-law.
Erdogan took a swipe at the United States for making a big deal of Baghdadi’s killing, saying: “They started a very big communication operation.”
The IS leader was killed in a US special forces raid carried out with the help of Kurdish fighters in the north-western Syrian province of Idlib, just across the border from Turkey.
According to the US account, Baghdadi ran into a dead-end tunnel in his hideout and detonated a suicide vest, killing himself and two children.
The raid came in the wake of a Turkish military offensive against the Kurdish militants, who have been a close ally of the West in the fight against IS, but are viewed as terrorists by Ankara.

SENATE PROPOSES THREE MONTHS JAIL FOR SOCIAL MEDIA OFFENDERS

The Senate  has introduced a bill to regulate the use of social media in  the country.

The bill, which passed  first reading at plenary on  Tuesday, proposed   N150, 000 fine or a three-month jail term for any individual who posts false information on social media.

The bill titled, ‘Protection from Internet Falsehood and Manipulations Bill 2019’ sponsored by Senator    Sani  Musa also prescribed a penalty of between N5m and N10m for any  corporate organisation that refuses to block false information after being  cautioned  by the  regulatory agency.

The bill also stipulates that telecommunication firms that allow their networks to be used to disseminate false information could face sanctions.

Musa,  who represents  Niger East in the upper chamber of the National Assembly, told reporters  on Wednesday that  the move  was aimed at guiding social media  users and not designed to gag the media.

He said,  “Nigeria is not only for the  government but for every Nigerian and we must all work towards moving this country to where it needs to be.

“You can see America and other advanced countries today; they have been  together for over hundreds of years.

“They had their period of turmoil and challenges like ours,  but they have been able to pass through.

“How did they do it? There is rule of law because  people are obeying to  the laws.

“For a country like Nigeria today and with the advent of social media, there is every reason for a country to as much as possible focus its attention on how this new media is tolerated.”

He said it was possible for  an individual to stay in a room and post  false information just to hit at someone.More in Home

The lawmaker added, “I have a passion for IT and I know what it takes to disseminate your information, it is like the speed of light.

“Some journalists will look at this legislation  as if we are trying bring a law that will gag  social media or the right to free press.

“It is  legislation that will guide how we can tolerate our activities on social media.

“False information has been disseminated so many time and it has caused  chaos in different parts of the world.

“If countries like the Philippines, Singapore, Italy, Malaysia, Australia, France, Indonesia, Egypt are putting control (measures in place)  to prevent the spread of false information, what stops us from doing it?”
