Rt HON YUSUF ADAMU GAGDI COMMENT PLATEAU AND FEDERAL GOVERNMENT FOR THE DRASTIC STEPS TAKEN TO CONTENT THE SPREAD OF THE DREADED CORONA VIRUS PANDEMIC IN THE COUNTRY AND PLATEAU STATE IN PARTICULAR

PRESS RELEASE

I felt inclined to commend the Federal Government of Nigeria as well as the Plateau State Government for the drastic steps taken to contend the spread of the dreaded corona virus pandemic in the country, and Plateau State in particular.

The governments at the federal and state levels have displayed a high degree of responsiveness to quell the menace that has crippled economic activities around the globe and sent a lot of people to their early graves.

I sincerely commiserate with the government and people of Italy, who appeared to be the worst ravaged nation by this deadly virus, and all other nations of the world facing similar problems.

The death of Suleman Achimugu, the erstwhile MD of PPMC, who remains the only recorded dead to corona virus witness in Nigeria, is most regrettable. I pray that all those who are infected with the virus survive it, while no more new infections are recorded henceforth. This is very possible if we abide strictly by the guidelines provided by health experts to avoid contracting the virus.

While the world continues to look for cure and vaccination for the virus, I wish to strongly call on the government of Nigeria to ensure public servants are paid at least two months salaries, March and April, in order to assist them stock pile food items in their various homes, in readiness for the stay at home instruction handed to the citizenry.

I do not pray that the pandemic escalates beyond its current state in Nigeria, but we must prepare for the worst. Government must suspend all contractual engagements for capital projects to focus on providing palliative for its citizens in this hard times.

I wish to add my voice to the call by government that citizens, especially my good people of Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam Federal Constituency to adhere to the various hygienic living advocated in contending the spread of the virus while the stay at home order is followed to the later.

May God heal our land, and deliver us from this pandemic, Amen!

67 ITALIAN PRIEST HAVE DIED OF CORONA VIRUS__Report

A total of 67 Italian priests infected with the novel coronavirus have died since the pandemic reached the Mediterranean country last month, the Avvenire newspaper said Wednesday.

The youngest of those listed by the Catholic Church-affiliated paper was 53.

“Priests get sick and die like everybody else, maybe even more than the rest,” the Avvenire wrote.

The paper said 22 of the fatalities were in the Bergamo diocese, at the heart of the outbreak not far from the financial centre Milan.

Pope Francis asked priests “to have the courage to go out and see the sick” when the pandemic was gathering strength across the country on March 10.

Meanwhile, authorities in Sudan have ordered the release of thousands of prisoners to prevent the novel coronavirus from spreading in the country’s jails, state media reported Wednesday.

“The first batch of prisoners from (a total of) 4,217 have been released from al-Hoda prison in the city of Omdurman,” twin city of the capital Khartoum, official news agency SUNA reported.

It did not specify how many prisoners were released or the nature of their crimes.

On Tuesday, authorities imposed an indefinite night-time curfew from 8pm to 6am local time.

NIGERIAN ARMY DISASSOCIATES ITSELF FROM MISLEADING PUBLICATION TAGGED:FEDERAL GOVERNMENT TO ENFORCE MILITARY LOCK DOWN ON FRIDAY

PRESS RELEASE

It has come to the notice of the Nigerian Army and the General public some misleading publications in a section of the media with the title “Federal Government to Enforce Military Lockdown on Friday.” The Nigerian Army wishes to dissociate itself from such false, speculative and vexatious publication designed by certain mischievous elements to create chaos, panic and disaffection in the society that could only serve the ulterior motives of its promoters.

To put the record straight, the document being quoted was a proactive directive for the Nigerian Army to prepare for possible escalation of the COVID -19 based on the happenings around the world on the pandemic.

The misinterpretation that Government is locking down the entire country and pulling out the Army by Friday 27 March 2020 is utterly false and baseless. The NA considers the publication and negative interpretation being given the content of the Classified document containing information meant for the Nigerian Army personnel as a violation of the Official Secret Act.

The NA will continue to be professional, proactive and responsive in support of the Constitution, Democracy and Government of NIGERIA in line with its constitutional mandate of providing aid to civil authority when called upon to do so. The NA will leave no stone unturned to prepare to support the civil authority in times of emergencies of national magnitude. The mischief of some unpatriotic few will not dissuade the Nigerian Army from working with sister services, the Nigeria Police and other security agencies to keep NIGERIA Safe.

The NA calls on the general public to discountenance the publication going round that the Federal Government is locking down NIGERIA by Friday 27 March 2020 on the basis of the content of the directive to military formations to take proactive measures to prepare for possible call out to assist civil authority in the case of COVID-19 getting worse in the Country.

You are please requested to bring this information to the notice of the general public to correct the misinformation.
